Research Software Engineer (m/f/d) at TIB Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library (Hannover, Deutschland)
The Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology – Program Area C, Research and Development, offers the position of a
Research Software Engineer (m/f/d)
to work in the Visual Analytics Research Group (Prof. Dr. Ralph Ewerth) starting from April 1st, 2021.
The position is initially limited to two years with envisioned extension. The regular weekly working time is 39.8 hours (full-time). The position is generally suitable for part-time work. The remuneration of the position is based on pay scale group 13 TV-L.
Your main task will be the development of innovative software solutions in the context of the project “B!SON: The Bibliometric and Semantic Open Access Recommender Network”, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The project is carried out in cooperation with the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) and targets the development of a recommendation service for quality-assured open access journals. The objective is to recommend suitable open access journals for publication, based on the title and abstract of a given manuscript. In B!SON, TIB is responsible for project coordination, community participation and the below-stated software development tasks. Beyond that, you will be involved in other projects of the research group.
Your tasks will focus on
- Design and implementation of a recommender system for scientific journals:
- Implementation of bibliometric techniques and metrics for the matching of article and suitable journals, based on state-of-the-art methods
- Implementation and adaptation of state-of-the-art methods for text similarity
- Exploration of citation networks and scientific knowledge graphs (e. g. https://www.orkg.org/orkg) to improve recommendation results
- Realisation of application programming interfaces (APIs) for the developed search functionalities
- Design, implementation and test of web-based user interfaces
- Evaluation of the developed components
- Transfer to a productive system
- Work in further projects of the research group
- Active participation in scientific publications is welcome
- Optional: If interested, the possibility for a doctoral dissertation can be given.
Your qualities
- A successfully completed university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant subject, such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Science or a comparable course of study in a related subject area
- Very good English language skills, written and spoken
- Excellent knowledge of one or more modern programming languages (in particular Python, Java, JavaScript and Web Technologies) and proven experience in software development and modern methods of software development (in particular Git, DevOps, CI/CD)
Desired additions to your profile
- Familiarity with the following groups of technologies:
- natural language processing,
- machine learning, especially deep learning (Pytorch, TensorFlow),
- knowledge graphs and semantic web,
- data analysis or
- digital libraries
- Experience with bibliographic metadata
