Now you have finished or are close to finishing your Master’s degree in the fields of mathematics, statistics or computer science. And then what? We have the answer. At least if you dream of turning your ideas into technology for the benefit of people by pushing the boundaries of current knowledge in science and engineering.
At DTU Compute you will be part of an internationally renowned research environment counting top class scientists, supervisors and numerous PhD students like yourself. In a combined role (full time with full time salary) you will be both a student and a co-working scientist. When finished, you have build valuable network, friendships as well as achieved research results to be proud of – and by that you have created the best possible foundation for your future career in academia or industry.
Right now, we have PhD students working with e.g. mathematical modelling to fight diabetes, bias in algorithms for Artificial Intelligence, statistical science for big data in energy systems, cybersecurity as well as fundamental scientific discoveries in Mathematics and Computer Science. Step 1 – contact a potential principal supervisor at DTU Compute
If you want to be our next PhD student and colleague, your first step is to contact a potential principal supervisor at DTU Compute. Together with the supervisor, you will then agree on a particular project and formulate a research proposal that you submit with your application. As part of the preparation process, you will get to visit DTU. Please note that your application must contain an acceptance letter from the supervisor.
Multiple components and learning opportunities
Your tangible goal is to transform from a student to a researcher while carrying out a scientific project and finding new results. We have a well tested road map for that covering your independent research project, a course program, research dissemination and teaching, an external research stay, your thesis and finally your public defence.
However, we also aim to build on you as a human being. For this, we prioritise and provide various social and networking opportunities.

To become a successful PhD student, you need a scientific mindset with a curious approach to learning backed by an additional ability to think innovatively outside the box. About DTU Compute
DTU Compute is an internationally unique academic environment spanning the science disciplines mathematics, statistics and computer science. At the same time we are an engineering department covering informatics and communication technologies (ICT) in their broadest sense. Finally, we play a major role in addressing the societal challenges of the digital society where ICT is a part of every industry, service, and human endeavour.
DTU Compute has 11 sections counting a total staff of 400 including 100 faculty members and 130 PhD students. We offer introductory courses to all engineering programmes at DTU and specialised courses to the mathematics, computer science, and other programmes. We offer continuing education courses and scientific advice within our research disciplines, and provide a portfolio of innovation activities for students and employees
Salary and employment terms
The employment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The position is a full-time position. The period of employment is 3 years starting in the summer or fall of 2020.
